Me.
I go by the name of Shannon. Mainly because that is what my parents named me before I was born. Middle name Rose, last name Ashford. I'm from down the street. So yes, I grew up in the valley and I am that "typical valley girl." So I have been told. I did, however, grew up with two older brothers so I'm not that "typical valley girl" people say I am. When I was young, I didn't like doing the things other girls did. I didn't want to dress up little plastic humanly figured toys, but instead, I wanted to throw pig skin across a field and tackle people. That's what happens when you grow up with brothers. My mother then forced me to become a cheerleader where I became a little more girly since I had to wear a skirt and actually had to shower and brush my hair. I mean what do you expect, I never had that "sisterly" figure in my life. And then I came to CSUN where I pledged in the best soroity on campus, Delta Zeta. My 100+ sisters in my soroity defenitly makes up for those many years where I couldn't say, "oh yeah I have two brothers and a sister." That is one of the many reasons why I love attending CSUN. Another reason is my major. I am a Deaf Studies major and CSUN has the second largest Deaf Studies program in the U.S. and first in Californiaa. I feel blessed to be apart of an amazing, tough, unuqie, and diversred culture. Beccause there are many students here, I find a lot of people who like a few things that I have interest in. I LOVE music. I can't go a day without listening to Pandora. Crazy, I know. There are many genres of music that I listen to. Rap, Hip Hop, Gospel, R&B, Clasical, and one of my aboslute favorite, Country! Many of my favorite songs I find through the movies I watch. Action, Suspense, and Drama are the ones that I enjoy the most. And no not drama like "he kissed her boyfriend and she was my best friend who is now pregnant with my brother." But drama as in trying to find out who killed who. If that makes sense. Maybe that doesnt really fall under drama but I like it. That's a little bit about me. But before I publish this blog, I should tell you the topics I can recall from English 113A. My professor was strict. But the good strict. I learned a few things and many things I already knew prior to being in that class but it was a good refresher. However being in that class made me realize that I'm not that great of a writer. But I was fine with that because that motivated me to pay close attention and learn a lot. My mother is a writer and an editor with a B.A. and M.A. in English. Therefore many people assume that I'm this AMAZING writer which I think led to a lot of pressure whenever i wrote anything. If there was one thing I remember what my professor told us in English 113A it was to not try to sound fancy when you're writing, just make it sound natural and write. That is all!
